You know you have to upskill. Sitting still feels like you are moving backwards. That’s what they told you and that's what you know. You know you have got to get better and grow. So you know you need learn to keep improving.
Maybe you see others posting beautiful pictures of their cases or pictures of themselves at courses and events, so you feel you HAVE to do a course or two to keep up.
Maybe you have that itch to always learn, and so you know you WANT to do a course.
Either way, you decide to join the learning journey. You decide you have to level up and find some courses to upskill.
You begin the process. You start searching. You start thinking about what topic or course you should select.
This is when you realise that there are a multitude of courses out there. So many online lectures, so many hands-on courses, and so many study club events. You just wanted to book a course, and now you are overwhelmed with amount of choice. You are confused.
As though this isn’t enough, you are inundated with a multitude of posts, messages and emails about more courses. Each course claims to be the most exciting yet and each course claims to be innovative. Some claim to be the perfect course. Now you are even more confused.
So you ask colleagues for their opinions. You may do this in person, or on some social media forum. Your colleagues highly recommend some courses. Others come up with even more suggestions. Now you are truly confused.
You are lost.
Instead of carefully dissecting your decision, you choose the most popular names. You settle for the household names. The one that everyone recommends, or the one you frequently see mentioned on most posts. You make a choice without considering some invisible details.
Yet you sometimes feel like you have missed out on something. You feel like this does not cover it all.
Maybe this is your journey in upskilling.
There are now more courses than ever before and choosing which one to undertake is not easy. The challenge has moved from a lack of information, to curation of information.
If you have read through all our previous posts, you will have figured out that Dentinaltubules is all about growth.
A key element of growth is having the skill and a method to find the right course for you. It is not about just going on courses, it is about finding the right course that will help you make the next meaningful and impactful step. It is about finding the information that helps you take the next leap forward, overcome your challenge and make real impact.
Yet no one teaches you how to find the right course. How do you find the right course?
Here are some tips
1. Identify your meaningful or inspiring gap, or problem, or need. Don't just identify your learning gap or need alone, add the meaningful or inspiring frame to it. This is going to fuel your want to overcome that gap or need.
2. Identify all the details of that need. This will help you identify all the courses you will need and also identify the aims and objectives a course should cover.
3. Identify your optimal learning patterns so you can find the right blend of courses to learn the information you need.
4. Identify the course and its providers and get details on their experiences, education, quality control measures, feedback, follow ups and much more.
Make your growth intentional. You create the path and find the right course, or courses, that will enable the path. Don't let the courses choose you, but instead, you choose the courses.
Ultimately, finding the right course(s) can help you overcome the 10 challenges and unlock your potential to Thrive.
