Ian qualified from Leeds University in 1998 and entered general practice in the North West. In 2001 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice. The following year he joined the teaching staff at Liverpool Dental Hospital in the Periodontology Department where he progressed through to being the Undergraduate Teaching Lead in Periodontics and a Senior Clinical Teacher in Periodontics, a role he held for 5 years until leaving that position in 2018.

In 2010 he completed his MSc in Periodontology and in 2013 he was admitted to the GDC Specialist List and is a Specialist Periodontist.

Ian has maintained his commitment to teaching especially in the arena of postgraduate teaching. He is the Periodontics Lead for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners where he runs their short course in Periodontics and leads the Periodontal components of the FGDP Restorative Diploma. Ian has lectured at most of the major UK dental conferences including the British Dental Association conference, British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry conference and the Association of Dental Implantology conference.

Ian serves on the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry Council where he is there Commercial Liaison Officer and was previously their Honorary Editor. He was recognised by them for his work in periodontal education and is a member of the lecturing Faculty.

Ian has written chapters for a number of text books and is on the editorial board for the popular Dental Update journal. Ian has worked with the team at Clinic 334 since 2010 and accepts referrals for all aspects of periodontal care and he also co-ordinates our hygienist services. Ian will assess patients for all aspects of non-surgical and surgical care and can also integrate pre-restorative treatments such as crown lengthening and soft tissue grafting into general practitioners treatment plans to allow you to get the very best aesthetic restorative outcomes for your patients.

Away from Clinic 334, Ian is married to Paula and they have two beautiful daughters. In his spare time Ian enjoys swimming and walks in the Lake District.
